Poon Hill trek is a short and relatively easy trek into the Annapurna region. This trek is suitable for those who do not have much time to spend with a burning desire to observe the beauty of snow-capped mountains. 

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is a mini trek  in Annapurna region and can be done all year long. Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is a perfect trek for starter and for those who have short time to experience Nepal. The highest altitude is 3210m where you have no risk of getting altitude sickness and you can experience the best of Nepal Himalayas and place to watch the sunrise. The view from Poonhill is incredible, which offers the close up view of Dhaulagiri (8176m) and numerous other peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.

Ghorepani-PoonHill trekking is an excellent combination of Himalayan scenery and beautiful landscape views. The view of the sunrise from poonhill is the greatest view of the Himalayas, offering glimpses of more than 30 mountains including three mountains above 8000M. The picturesque landscapes, rice terraces, villages along the way, rhododendron forests, waterfalls and streams add more highlight to the beauty of this trek. Encounter of culturally rich Gurung and Magar people will provide a good vibe of living in those remote areas. You will have a cool time walking through the lush forests, scattered Magar settlements, and the amazing mountain views.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Kathmandu

Upon arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, our representatives will welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to hotel in Kathmandu.
Accommodation: Standard hotel on BB basis

Transport: Private Vehicles as per group size.

Today, you will be enjoy visiting the World heritage site in Kathmandu including Kathmandu Durbar Square or Patan Durbar Square, Pashupatinath (temple of Shiva), Bouddhanath or Swayambhunath.
Accommodation: Standard hotel on BB basis

Choice of tourist bus (approximately 6 hrs with breakfast and lunch breaks)
private car (approximately 5 hrs with breaks)
by flight (30 mins).
Arrive Pokhara lakeside and transfer to hotel. Depending on arrival time, may be opportunity to explore around lakeside. Overnight at hotel.

After early breakfast leave to the trek starting point(Nayapul) .Walk along the Modi river valley where waterfalls and inviting plunge pools await. Ascend the steep staircase to Magar village of Ulleri from where there are breathtaking views of the valley below and the peaks of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.

The day starts with a gentle climb before reaching steeper climbs of a river walk through oak and rhododendron forests en route to Ghorepani.

Early morning start and one hour ascent to experience sun rise at Poon Hill and the sensational views of the Himalayas. On a clear day the mountains of Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Annapurna I (8019m), and Manalsu (8156m) are visible together with the 6,000 meter deep Kali Gandaki gorge. The final destination is Tadapani for an overnight stay.

The trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk is a fairly easy descent through dense forests and takes about three hours. Ghandruk is a large Gurung village and has its own museum and handicraft centre again popular with visitors. Once here, there are good views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna Annapurna III and Machhapuchhare.

The trek from Ghandruk to Pothana is about six hours and begins with a steep descent following a stone staircase to Kimbu which means Bee Hive. Kimbu is located at an elevation of 1200m on the bank of the Modi Khola. Finally, the trail then descends to reach Pothana village.

Early morning sunrise from Sarangkot and visit most of the popular tourist attractions including Devi's Falls, World Peace Stupa, and boating at Lake Phewa.

After breakfast, early morning start to return to Kathmandu by tourist bus which takes approximately 6 hours or if you wish to fly it will takes half an hour by small aircraft. Drop off at hotel, rest of day to enjoy at leisure. At the evening, farewell dinner in typical Nepali restaurant from Mount Trails.

Trip Note

Our Trekking Group

The trekking group is depends on the number of persons but we normally take in 02-10 persons in a group. However, if you are in a bigger group of more than 10 persons, we can manage trekking accordingly. The maximum number 10  is the outcome of generally organized group treks. But, we are good at organizing treks for any group size you require. 

Besides the trekking group, we have our local staffs to assist you as well. Trekking does not just mean traveling around; it will be more rewarding if you can gain good bunch of information of the areas you travel. So, we provide you with guides for that and in order to assure easy travel experience, we have porters who would carry on your luggage. We will facilitate you with 1 porter between 2 trekkers. Our porter carry maximum of 20 kg weight. 

Guides and Porters

For trekking group of 1 to 5 people, we provide – 1 Guide and Porter (1 porter between two trekkers).

For trekking group of more than 5 people, we provide – 1 Guide, 1 Assistant Guide and Porter (1 porter between two trekkers).

Accommodation

Our overnight stay would be on Tea Houses/lodges during Trekking of Tsum Valley.  Twin sharing comfortable beds and common bathroom will be provided. The place is clean and hygienic. However, if you require a single supplement accommodation, it can also be made available on request at an additional cost of US$ 40. But still you need to be aware that single supplement accommodation may not be available at all the places during your trek in Himalayas. 

Meals

We mostly serve fresh and hygienic food to let you experience typical Nepali food, special mountain foods and other cuisines including international cuisine like Indian, Tibetan, Italian, and Continental. You can always make your choices from the food menu available there. We will have breakfast and dinner at lodge/tea houses mostly whereas we will have the lunch on our way. 

While in Kathmandu, your accommodation is at tourist standard hotels facilitated with Attached Bath, A/C, 24 hours running hot/cold shower, Internet service and others. The facilities provided here is of 2 to 3 star standard hotel and we serve you a breakfast at same hotel.

Transportation

The means of transportation are private cars/vans and public bus. Pick up and drop off from airport to hotel, and hotel to airport will be done by private transportation. Also we can arrange domestic flight as per your request. Trek in Nepal will start with a drive from Kathmandu to trek starting point.

Safety and Precaution

It is necessary that you take in good precaution during your travel to avoid any difficulties in your Trekking in Himalayas. As the trekking leads to higher altitude range, you need some trustworthy, experienced, qualified and well-equipped people around you. Your safety is assured by the local trek guide and other staffs. 

Since these hikes take you on the remote Himalayan region, it is very essential that you are accompanied with the very experienced, qualified and well-equipped leader such that your trek runs safe and successful one. All our guides at Mount Trails are trained and licensed from Nepal Government, certified from TAAN and Nepal Mountaineering Association with experience over many years. So, this is a double assurance for your safety and to make sure that you are in the correct and professionals hand. Thus, you need not worry about anything; we are here only at your service.

Health Issues

Regarding health issues, we are well aware that you are likely to get Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Going up high at faster pace is too harmful and can be fatal as well because of less oxygen. This itinerary is only a guideline pattern which we can offer; this is a potentially difficult climb under rigid conditions that will test your patience to the limits; a trekking tour of this type is prone to unpredictable calamities related to mountain weather, local politics, and transportation etc, which will be beyond control in the event of any unseen circumstances which may occur and as a result, this may require a change in your itinerary. However, it is very unlikely that such circumstances may occur but our effort is to minimize its effect, and Mount Trails will not be responsible for any situation developing in delays or changes to your program.
